So, I just recently got a PS3. I’m a little late to the party, I’m well aware. I was pretty deep in the Xbox camp with the 360 but with how in love with my PS2 I was (I cried like a child when I finally sold it so that I could feed my dog) it was only a matter of time before Sony lured me back in. Ultimately, it was the need for Metal Gear Solid 4, the Uncharted series, and the Little Big Planet franchise that I finally picked up this system.
I don’t use tumblr very much so I figured I’d establish it as a forum from which I rant, rave, praise, and complain about the PS3, the games, and my experience with it.
First, I LOVE the Netflix application for the PS3. Way sleeker and intuitive than the Xbox version. I will be using it as my primary Netflix vehicle now.
Second, Uncharted is frakin’ HARD. I got Uncharted 1 and 2 as a bundle ($25.00 was a damn good price point to have both games) but if I had known that I was way too dumb to navigate the damn thing, I would have gotten Little Big Planet 2 (as my darling bride to be would have preferred). But no, I opted to follow the adventures of Nathan Drake or, as I am starting to affectionately refer to him as, Fleshy Bullet Holder. If I’m not being shot to death before I remember which button draws my gun, I’m busy leaping to my death like an idiot off of one of the many, many cliffs. I was pretty terrible at Tomb Raider, so I really shouldn’t be surprised. It’s a beautiful game to play, though, so I’m willing to hang in there.
Third, downloading old PSOne games. Hold. The. Phone. I can download Final Fantasy Tactics, Final Fantasy 8, and Metal Gear Solid? Worth the price of the system easily for that alone. Those are two of the greatest games the original Playstation came out with and damn am I psyched to be able to download them and play them on my very large TV. I don’t know if they’ll be in HD and I don’t even care.
Third point one, I was really bummed out that they were releasing Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 (as well as some PSP versions) updated for the next generation consoles. But to be able to download the original Metal Gear Solid was worth an additional paragraph of excitement.
Third point two, Breath of Fire 4 but not 3? Give me a break Sony. I’m mad at you until you allow me to download Breath of Fire 3. Fist shaking mad.
Fourth, Blu-Ray. OMFG. That is all.
All in all, despite my frustration about Uncharted (and that really only stems from my being an idiot when it comes to adventure games) I am quite pleased with my purchase. I still keep going back to Xbox because that’s where I’ve dropped endless hours into Fallout: New Vegas, but that may change once I start playing Skyrim and Arkham City.
